FIRST MORTAR BED

The cement nails decrease mortar shifting.

which will cover the entire floor.

BAG ONE

Mixed in the garage and wheeled through the house

and tamped into the drain hole.

The mortar will be 1 1/2 inch thick at the drain.

BAG TWO

We begin along the back edge sloping at 1/4 inch per foot to the drain.

With each bag we fill the back and the ends

trying not to paint ourselves in a corner so to speak.

The 6 1/2 foot 2 x 4 verifies the slope of 1/4 inch per foot to the right (south) end.

We also have to slope in from the sides to the center.

Meanwhile, local labor mixes mortar in the garage on a 112 degree day in Gilbert.

and hauls it in a bucket to the "Master's"(?) bathroom!

Where da Mudder does da mudding!

Da happy Mudder!

The final bucket (8 total 80 pound bags x 2 buckets per bag = 16 trips) fills in the gap.

Waldo wants to keep up on progress but runs when the dolly with the mortar bucket arrives.

A little touch up troweling ....

while Cadence from next door comes by to check out the progress.

and later Waldo returns to "Cricket Watch" duty.

He thinks he hears one .....

dives in to get it ....

and settles in to wait for it!

THE BASE COAT IS, WE HOPE, COMPLETE

A rubber liner will be installed next over the mortar and 6 inches up the wall, then, the rest of the concrete board..

followed by an additional 2 or more inches of mortar and then.....the TILE !!

TO DATE WE HAVE WORKED 9 PARTIAL (3-5 HOUR) OR COMPLETE (8 HOUR) DAYS WITH 3 DAYS OFF
